The Motorway Assistant maintains your distance, steers and changes lane up to the speed limit of the road at the time – with a maximum speed of 81 mph/130 km/h, where legally permitted. You can take your hands off the steering wheel as long as you remain alert.

HOW THE MOTORWAY ASSISTANT WORKS.
The Motorway Assistant is at your side on designated motorways with physically separated carriageways and lane markings. With BMW Symbiotic Drive, the Assistant supports you intuitively from the entry to exit. When the system is ready on approved motorways you can take your hands off the steering wheel, up to the speed limit of the road at the time (with a maximum speed of 81 mph/130 km/h, where legally permitted), as long as you keep a watchful eye on the traffic and are ready to take back the wheel if necessary.
The system suggests lane changes, which you can confirm by looking in the exterior mirrors. Your BMW will then complete the change into the new lane. If the system detects that you are distracted, it gives a visual and acoustic warning.

Digital services are transmitted over the air to your BMW.
