The charging time depends on the electrical connection: electric cars and plug-in hybrids can indeed be charged at a domestic socket outlet, but charging takes longer due to the lower charging power. Charging with a home charger at home with up to 7.4 kW, depending on the car, is faster, safer, and more convenient.

Alternating current (AC) puts less load on the battery, ensuring that it has a longer service life. However, if time is of the essence when you are travelling, you can also charge with direct current (DC) at a fast-charging station and gain plenty of range for your electric cars in a very short time.

Charging at home can be achieved by using a regular 3-pin socket and a standard BMW charging cable such as the optional BMW Flexible Charging Cable or Multifunction Charging Cable, offering the convenience of charging your car from the moment you take delivery.

The optional BMW Flexible Charging Cable and Multifunction Charging Cable are approximately 6m long.

The Vehicle-to-Load function is available for new BMW iX3 and future BMW models.⁵ However, you need the right optional accessories to use the Vehicle-to-Load function. It is optionally available in two versions. Firstly, as a Vehicle-to-Load adapter that you can use to supply power to a single consumer. Secondly, as a Multifunction Charging Cable with an associated Vehicle-to-Load discharge adapter to simultaneously supply several consumers with power. The Multifunction Charger with its Vehicle-to-Load discharge adapter is a comprehensive all-in-one solution with three socket connections and two USB-C ports. It combines different charging options and lets you simultaneously supply power to multiple devices using the discharge adapter.
