Enjoy every journey. Including the parking.

Intelligent parking assistance systems ensure that every journey in a BMW is enjoyable, including parking. They can help make manoeuvring easier, safer and effortless in every parking situation.

Park Assist.

Park Assist including linear guidance can park the vehicle completely automatically, parallel or perpendicular to the street. The system works by measuring potential spaces while driving past them at a low speed. If the driver parks manually without the help of the Park Assist, Active Park Distance Control (PDC) offers additional protection against damage with the Lateral parking aid.

Remote Control Parking

Remote Control Parking.

The Remote Control Parking assistance system lets the car do the parking. Even after the driver has exited the car, it parks itself by moving forward into, or reversing out of, a tight parking space or garage. A button on the BMW display key activates the remote-controlled parking function from outside the car.

The procedure is monitored by Park Distance Control (PDC), the Parking assistant and the Surround View sensors. The car must be straight and centred, facing the parking space or garage for the remote-controlled parking function to be activated. If necessary, the driver can bring the car to a controlled stop during the parking procedure.

Once parked, the engine can be switched off via the BMW display key. And when it's time to move on, the engine can also be restarted via the key. During remote-controlled pulling out of a parking space, the car automatically reverses in a straight line.

N.B. Remote Control Parking is currently only available for the new BMW 5 or 7 Series

Rear View Camera

Rear View Camera.

With the Rear View Camera, everything is conveniently in sight at the back. It allows the area behind the car to be viewed in the Control Display when manoeuvring and parking, and enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below 12mph. Interactive lines indicate whether the chosen parking space is big enough, and support the driver by marking parking areas in colour on the Control Display. When used with the tow hitch, the Rear View Camera makes the approach when hooking up a trailer easier with a practical zoom function.

Surround View.

A new way of looking at things: Surround View gives a 270-degree or 360-degree (depending on model) all-round panorama view. It improves vision, particularly when driving in and out of difficult entrances or parking in tight spaces via a combination of cameras in the exterior mirrors and a Rear View camera. In addition, two digital cameras on the left and right at the front of the vehicle transmit images onto the Control Display. At junctions this makes it possible to see crossing traffic approaching in good time.

Park Distance Control

Park Distance Control.

Parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces is made easy with Park Distance Control (PDC). Using ultrasound to measure the distance to any obstacles that may be present, front and rear PDC warns the driver acoustically and shows distances in the Control Display. The system switches on below a distance of 80cm when the vehicle is moving, 30cm when stationary.
