The M TwinPower Turbo V8 petrol engine

Applying the power of two turbochargers, the BMW M TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder petrol engine effortlessly propels the BMW M5 Saloon forward. With all the spontaneity, strength and precision you would expect from a power unit of this size and pedigree, its impressive performance is always accompanied by an unmistakable sound.

The numbers speak for themselves: 680 Nm, 560 hp (412 kW), 0 to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds (with the optional Competition package: 575 hp (423 kW), 0 to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds). The high-revving V8 M TwinPower Turbo engine of the BMW M5 makes a statement with its performance and acceleration. The impressive engine power comes from the connection to a linear power curve with the extreme thrust of a double turbocharger. Enhanced intercoolers and the patented TwinScroll charging concept ensure a spontaneous response. The torque of 680 Nm is available over an extremely wide rev range from 1,500 to 5,750 rpm. As a result, the M TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder petrol engine reacts powerfully to every touch of the accelerator. Thanks to Valvetronic and High Precision Injection, the engine also sets standards for performance and fuel consumption. This results in an average of only 28.5 mpg when combined with BMW EfficientDynamics measures such as Auto Start-Stop and Brake Energy Regeneration. When combined with the optional Competition package, the power of the M TwinPower Turbo V8 petrol engine rises to an impressive 575 hp (423 kW) thanks to increased boost pressure in the upper rev range – all achieved with constant fuel consumption. Here the maximum torque of 680 Nm is available over a rev range from 1,500 to 6,000 rpm.
