About us.

The UK has an important role to play within the BMW Group. It is the only place in the world where all three of BMW Group’s brands – BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars – are represented by manufacturing operations.
The growth of BMW Group’s UK operations has been significant.  MINI Plant Oxford, the heart of MINI production, began producing MINIs in 2001 and has now produced over three million. BMW Plant Hams Hall started producing 4-cylinder petrol engines in 2001. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited began manufacturing vehicles at its Goodwood plant in 2003. MINI Plant Swindon has been the main supplier of MINI body panels since 2005.
In addition to its manufacturing sites, BMW Group also has a UK Sales and Marketing subsidiary in Farnborough with a Vehicle Distribution Centre in Thorne, near Doncaster.
As BMW Group has grown in the UK, so have our environmental responsibilities. Protecting the environment is an obligation we take very seriously. All our manufacturing plants worldwide are certified to the International Management Standard ISO 14001. To achieve this we have established a series of improvement programmes that we actively develop and monitor.
BMW Group employs around 8,000 people directly in the UK with an additional 14,000 in its 147-strong Retailer network representing BMW and MINI brands. The company has invested nearly £2 billion in its UK operations since 2000. The UK is BMW Group’s fourth largest sales market in the world.

BMW Plant Oxford.

Employing more than 4,000 associates, the plant builds around 1,000 MINIs per day to individual customer order, five days a week. Known as the ‘heart and home of MINI’ the site covers over 100 acres and has been manufacturing cars since 1913. Around £1.75 billion has been invested by BMW Group at its Oxford, Swindon and Hams Hall plants since 2000. At Oxford this a state-of-the-art bodyshop; a new final assembly area; a Quality and Engineering Centre and ‘MINIcademy’, where the plant’s apprentices are trained. Since the launch in 2001, more than three million MINIs have been built at Oxford, around 80% of which have been exported to more than 110 countries around the world.

BMW Plant Hams Hall.

BMW Plant Hams Hall first opened in 2001 and the plant has a 15-year successful and sustained history of producing small, fuel-efficient, low emission engines for a variety of models across the BMW and MINI product portfolio. Investment in recent years has ensured the site remains state-of-the-art and has enabled the plant to grow and play an increasing role in the BMW Group's global production network.
Over four million engines have been produced at Plant Hams Hall and the latest generation of three and four cylinder engines are produced on brand-new facilities, including engines for MINI and two of the latest hybrid vehicles – the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car and the BMW 225xe. The plant has one of the most modern and advanced, high-tech machining halls where the production capability for machining engine components has trebled with supply extended to other BMW engine plants in the network and output now exceeding one million parts per year.

BMW Plant Swindon.

MINI Plant Swindon employs approximately 850 associates on a site covering 450,000 m². Facilities include 16 press lines and 240 robot cells. Just over half of the pressed parts go to the MINI plant in Oxford, with the rest going to MINI production at the Nedcar plant in Holland and also to other plants in the BMW production network. Over 47.5 million panels were produced in 2016, and over 3 million sub-assemblies.


UK sales, marketing and aftersales subsidiary of BMW AG
BMW Group UK is the sales, marketing and aftersales subsidiary of BMW AG. Headquartered in Farnborough, Hampshire, BMW Group UK is responsible for importing BMW vehicles into the UK and supplying them for sale through its independent Retailer network. BMW Group UK also has responsibility for all national marketing, advertising and aftersales activities for the BMW and MINI brands. Established in 1980, BMW Group UK currently employs around 500 associates.

BMW Financial Services (GB) Ltd.

BMW Financial Services (GB) Limited was established in 1996 to handle wholesale, retail and fleet financing for the BMW Group. It exists to support the sales of all BMW Group products in the United Kingdom and provide Retailers and customers with bespoke funding packages and insurance products enabling more customers to access the whole BMW range.
In 2015 with over 300 staff, BMW Financial Services (GB) Limited relocated its business from Hook, Hampshire to join the rest of the BMW Group at its UK headquarters located in Farnborough.
In 2016 BMW Financial Services (GB) Ltd was awarded the ‘Investors in People’ - Gold Standard.

Alphabet (GB) Ltd.

Supporting brands such as Panasonic and McDonald’s Restaurants, Alphabet manages a fleet of over 150,000 vehicles in the UK and almost 650,000 vehicles across 19 countries worldwide. Established in 1997, over 400 employees work for Alphabet at the offices in Farnborough, Hampshire.Alphabet is Europe’s leading provider of Business Mobility services. Helping organisations to meet their changing business travel requirements and enabling their employees to keep moving efficiently and effectively.  Innovative mobility products, like the Corporate CarSharing solution AlphaCity, are changing the way UK businesses finance, manage and use company cars. Another pioneering service, AlphaElectric, enables organisations and employees to switch on to the benefits of ultra-low and zero emission vehicles.
Alphabet’s portfolio of Mobility services comprises a comprehensive suite of vehicle funding solutions and fleet management including: corporate and employee car schemes, commercial vehicles, risk management, vehicle rental, accident management, fleet management and maintenance.

BMW Motorrad UK.

The motorcycling division of BMW Group UK based at Farnborough, BMW Motorrad UK has shown significant growth in the UK. BMW continues to dominate the adventure sports and touring sectors. 
BMW Motorrad’s strong network of 39 BMW Retailers across the country continue to offer industry-leading service, resulting in BMW Motorrad being voted ‘Best Motorcycle Brand’ in the 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014 RiDER Power surveys. BMW Motorrad also organises and runs worldwide riding tours, rider training from novice to advanced and an off-road riding school, through its activities program – World of BMW.

BMW Group Academy UK.

Wokefield Park, near Reading is host to the BMW Group Academy UK. This purpose-built training and development facility is responsible for providing all technical and non-technical training to BMW, MINI and Motorrad Retailer network across the UK from apprentices to Heads of Business. Opened in May 2006, the Academy has been awarded an Ofsted rating of Grade 1 (‘Outstanding’) based on its last three audits.

BMW Group UK Regional Parts Distribution Centre.

A 457,546 sq ft (42,506 sq m) purpose-built warehouse for BMW Group (UK) Ltd. became operational in 2012 at ProLogis Park Pineham in Northampton.  The facility serves as BMW Group’s regional distribution centre delivering parts to BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and BMW motorcycle Centres throughout the UK and Ireland. The facility represents a multi-million pound investment for BMW Group UK that is designed to further develop its industry-leading parts logistics operations. Construction of a 150,000 square foot extension is nearing completion and will  become operational in 2017.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd.

The modern home of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is a purpose-built manufacturing plant situated on the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex. Here over 1,700 specialists combine precision technology with traditional craftsmanship in the production of all Rolls-Royce models, continuing the marque’s heritage of hand-built super luxury motor cars.

Sustainability in the UK.

Sustainability is firmly embedded in the BMW Group’s culture and corporate strategy. In 2001, the BMW Group committed itself to the United Nations Environment Programme, the UN Global Compact and the Cleaner Production Declaration. It was also the first company in the automotive industry to appoint an environmental officer back in 1973. Today, the Sustainability Board, comprising all members of the BMW AG Board of Management, defines the strategic alignment through binding targets. 
The BMW Group adopts an holistic approach, implementing sustainability throughout the value chain. In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, its strategy also focuses on achieving continuous progress in areas such as corporate environmental protection, supply chain sustainability, employee orientation and social commitment. 
Between 1995 and 2015, the BMW Group succeeded in reducing the CO2 emissions of its new vehicles sold in Europe (EU 28) by 40 per cent. In 2015, its average CO2 emission across Europe (EU28) stood at 127 g/km and worldwide 147 g/km. Systematic expansion of alternative drive trains in the BMW fleet, combined with innovative mobility services have made a significant contribution to this progress.
Since July 2016, the BMW Group line-up has included seven models that are either all-electric, like the BMW i3, or combine a conventional engine with an electric motor as a plug-in hybrid. This signals the company’s clear commitment to sustainable mobility. 
The BMW Group aims to be a leader in the use of renewable energy in production and value creation. 58 per cent of the electricity purchased by BMW Group worldwide already comes from renewable sources. 
A further goal of the BMW Group is to significantly increase transparency and resource efficiency throughout its supply chain by 2020. In this connection, around 1,900 supplier locations were evaluated for the first time using an industry-specific sustainability questionnaire in 2015. These evaluations are performed for all nominated, potential and active supplier locations. 
Further education and training of employees remains another top priority for the BMW Group. In 2015, the BMW Group invested a total of €352 million in further education and training programmes. The company also hired more than 1,500 apprentices worldwide. Around 4,700 young people are currently enrolled in vocational training and talent development programmes at the BMW Group.
The BMW Group has also been involved in promoting intercultural exchange, both within and outside the company, for many years. In conjunction with the UN Alliance of Civilisations, the BMW Group presents the Intercultural Innovation Award to exemplary projects in this field.

BMW has a long established commitment to supporting education across the UK. Launched in the UK over 17 years ago as part of the company's corporate responsibility commitment, BMW Education Programme provides free, curriculum-linked and award-winning educational resources. It is BMW's intention for its programmes to be not only informative and engaging but accessible to everyone.
