ENGINES TO PROMISE DYNAMIC TORQUE.

A choice of six or eight cylinders are at work under the bonnet of the BMW 6 Series Coupé.

No matter which engine you opt for, each BMW 6 Series Coupé will inspire you with its performance. All three drivetrains exhibit outstanding acceleration figures. The BMW TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder engine, in particular, is certain to captivate you with its powerful character.

Just a brief press of the accelerator in the BMW 6 Series Coupé unleashes the power of the V8 petrol engine. The BMW TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder engine with two turbochargers, double-Vanos and High Precision Direct Injection delivers an outstanding 449hp (330 kW). A maximum torque of 650 Nm goes from 0 to 62 mph in only 4.6 seconds. Measured against this output, the V8 petrol engine is surprisingly modest in its consumption – with an average of 31.7 mpg and combined CO2 emissions of 206 g/km. The eight-speed sports automatic transmission Steptronic keeps the engine in the optimum revving range and shifts almost imperceptibly while offering outstanding travelling comfort. Centrally fitted exhaust turbochargers in the V of the cylinder banks permit an especially compact engine design and therefore a lighter weight. The combination of lightweight chassis construction and optimised aerodynamics produces unique agility, perfect grip and razor-sharp handling.

The strengths of the BMW straight six-cylinder are legendary. With each new generation, BMW has continued to refine the engine while at the same increasing its dynamics and efficiency. The BMW 640i represents another highlight in this success story. A power output of 320hp (235 kW) and 450 Nm of torque combine with a fuel consumption of 36.7 mpg and emission figures of 179 g/km CO2 to yield an acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 5.4 seconds. In the Twin Turbo of the BMW 640i, revolutionary technologies and innovative fine tuning interact to complement each other. Twin Scroll turbocharger and VALVETRONIC bring a breath of fresh air into the combustion chamber, where petrol direct injection generates clouds of a precisely adjusted petrol-air mixture within milliseconds. The result is maximum efficiency particularly when full power is not required, maximum power over a broad band of revs, and a direct response at all times. In short, an engine that does justice to the BMW 6 Series Coupé.

The BMW 640d inspires with strong performance, rapid power build-up and low consumption. Behind this is the innovative BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, which combines common rail direct injection and multistage turbocharging with variable turbine geometry. This significantly reduces fuel consumption while at the same time greatly increasing output. A high torque of 630 Nm is available even in the low-revving range between 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm. The extremely smooth six-cylinder engine produces 230 kW (313 hp), providing an impressive display of power. As a result, the BMW 6 Series Coupé accelerates to 62 mph from a standing start in only 5.3 seconds and consumes an average of only 51 to 52 mpg, depending on the selected wheel and tyre size.
