Eight-speed Steptronic sport transmission.

The eight-speed Steptronic sport transmission adapts to suit your driving style, from comfortable cruising through to dynamic driving. Gear selection is automatic, or you can shift gears manually via the selector lever or the shift paddles on the steering wheel.

In Sport mode, the gear shifts are configured for maximum performance. Thanks to the fine increments and eight gears, the engine is kept at its optimum its power level for faster acceleration. At motorway speeds, the additional eighth gear reduces the required engine speed, so reducing fuel consumption and engine noise.

BMW X6 Active Steering

Active steering.

Active Steering adjusts to make cornering easier at both low and high speeds, giving precision and agility in every driving situation. At slow speeds, Active Steering enlarges the steering angle, so tight manoeuvres require a smaller movement of the steering wheel. At higher speeds, the response is more subtle, reducing the steering angle, giving greater stability, precision and comfort.

In critical situations, such as when the driver oversteers or when braking on an inconsistent surface, active steering intervenes to assist.

As Active Steering is a supplementary system it does not disturb the direct connection between the driver and the wheels. And if the system fails a safety circuit blocks the Active Steering and returns control to the driver.

Adaptive Suspension Packages.

The BMW X6 drives as well as it looks – particularly with the optional Adaptive Suspension Packages. Whether you want a sporty or a more comfortable drive, these packages guarantee the best possible road holding in all situations.


The Comfort adaptive suspension package allows the suspension and damper settings to be individually adjusted at any time. The standard setting is designed for excellent driving and damping comfort, and can be individually adjusted using the Driving Performance Control. The air suspension for the rear axle is included in the equipment package and guarantees a consistently high level of driving comfort, no matter what is being carried.

When more dynamic suspension settings are desired, Sport mode and Sport+ mode make the damper settings firmer, which allows the car to steer more responsively, and have sportier handling characteristics overall.


The ‘Dynamic’ suspensions package exploits the full driving dynamics of the BMW X6. Encompassing both Dynamic Performance Control and Dynamic Drive, it delivers a sporty drive yet maintains comfort, with minimal body roll in bends.

The Dynamic Performance Control smoothly distributes the drive power on the rear axle between the left and right wheels. In bends, the torque is increased on the outside wheels for increased traction. The result is stability and a dynamic ability through bends, with rolling motion reduced to a barely noticeable level.


The Professional Active Suspension package provides the best of both worlds, combining the features of the Comfort Adaptive Suspension package and the Dynamic Adaptive Suspension for both maximum comfort and outstanding driving dynamics.

Adaptive M Suspension.

The Adaptive M Suspension gets the maximum potential from the BMW X6 and offers increased driving dynamics. Features include Dynamic Damper Control and air suspension on the rear axle, with a set-up designed for a particularly sporty driving response. The Adaptive M Suspension is only available as part of the M Sport package.

BMW xDrive.

The intelligent BMW xDrive four-wheel drive system adapts to the most challenging road conditions. With xDrive and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), split-second response times allow xDrive to distribute power  between the two axles for optimum grip. In this way, xDrive combines the advantages of four-wheel drive – traction, directional stability and safety – with classic BMW agility.

Intelligent Lightweight Construction

Intelligent Lightweight Construction.

Lighten the load. Lighten the running cost. The BMW X6 is built using a range of high-tech and where possible lightweight materials, including aluminium in the front and chassis, high-strength steel in the body, as well as ultra-modern plastics and magnesium.  




The entire vehicle design is testament to the BMW EfficientDynamics philosophy, to minimise fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions while increasing dynamics and driving pleasure . The optimised, aerodynamic front apron and undercarriage feature details that reduce air resistance and fuel consumption.

Consisting of the Aero Curtain and Air Breather, the front apron is a prominent feature that embodies the BMW EfficientDynamics philosophy.

By channeling air through two vertical air inlets and along the front wheel arches, the integrated Aero Curtain accelerates airflow to reduce turbulence on the outer side of the wheels, as do the Air Breather channels. Reducing turbulence reduces drag, which in turn reduces fuel consumption.

By continuously assessing the cooling needs of the engine, and opening or closing the radiator air vents in response Air Vent Control optimises the  aerodynamics and shortens the engine’s warm-up phase. Both mean reduced fuel consumption.



Everything in ECO PRO mode is geared towards greater efficiency, reducing fuel consumption by up to 20%.

Route-Ahead Assistant.

Based on data from the navigation system, the Route-Ahead Assistant recognises curves, built-up areas, speed limits and motorway exits, giving tips about the optimal speed.

ECO PRO Route.

ECO PRO Route shows the most efficient route, based on the traffic situation, driving style and road conditions. The on-board computer displays the percentage of fuel that can be saved by driving along the route suggeseted by ECO PRO Route.

Intelligent energy management.

Intelligent energy management in the BMW X6 is provided by a number of standard-feature BMW EfficientDynamics technologies, including the Auto Start-Stop function, Electric Power Steering and Brake Energy Regeneration. The interplay between these technologies ensures maximum efficiency.

Auto Start-Stop.

The Auto Start-Stop function ensures that fuel is only used when the car is moving. When it comes to a temporary stop at traffic lights or in stop-and-go traffic, the Auto Start-Stop function saves fuel by switching the engine off.

A signal in the Info Display indicates when the Auto Start-Stop function is active, and as soon as you take your foot off the brake the engine re-starts automatically. Auto Start-Stop can be switched off with a click of a button.

Auto Start-Stop will not function if the engine hasn’t warmed up, or if the cabin isn’t at the desired temperature, if the battery level is too low or if the steering wheel is being turned. And the engine automatically re-starts if the car begins to roll or if condensation starts to form on the windscreen. 

Electric Power Steering.

BMW Electric Power Steering is only active when it needs to be. Unlike conventional hydraulic steering systems, BMW Electric Power Steering only uses energy when the wheel is actually being turned. When driving straight ahead, the electric motor remains inactive.

Brake Energy Regeneration.

Every time you brake, kinetic energy (the energy of the car in motion) is wasted. Brake Energy Regeneration harnesses this energy and turns it into electricity, which is then used to charge the car battery. This means the alternator no longer needs to run constantly, which reduces the strain on the generator. The result: reduced fuel consumption and increased performance.
