The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo uses technology to make everyday motoring easier and more enjoyable. Automatic tailgate operation enables the tailgate to be opened and closed electronically via a button in the interior, or by the one on the key fob. Upgrade to Comfort Access and a wave of the foot under the rear bumper unlocks the car and opens the boot, provided the car can sense the presence of the key.
Park Distance Control (PDC), fitted as standard, makes parking a much simpler affair. Using ultrasound sensors on the back of the vehicle, the system calculates the position of obstacles, and uses an acoustic warning to alert to the closeness of obstacles. A diagram of the vehicle and potential obstacles appears in the Control Display, making entering and leaving parking spaces in reverse much easier.
Upgrades include PDC for the front of the vehicle, a Reversing Assist Camera, which displays both the area behind the car and parking guidelines, and Park Assist, whereby the car spots suitable spaces for parallel parking and then when asked, steers the car in, with the driver controlling the accelerator and brakes.
