SECURITY FOR YOUR MOST PRECIOUS THINGS.

BMW takes safety seriously. It’s engineered into every new car and combines the materials used, the design of the cabin, and technologies that can warn of possible dangers before they occur.

Safety designed in.

All BMW models have safety at their core. Advanced engineering and attention to material selection means using the right material in the right place, so reducing the weight of components for outstanding stiffness in the bodyshell and excellent passive safety. A car that is more responsive to the driver’s actions is a car that can stop faster and avoid accidents in the first place.
All BMW vehicles have switchgear where the driver would expect to find it, with the hand falling naturally on the right button, so the driver doesn’t have to take their eyes off the road. The dashboard is clear with all screens angled into the driver’s eye line, again to minimise time spent looking away from the road. BMW’s iDrive interface is intuitive to use with key instructions appearing on the dashboard. Naturally its display can be tailored to the driver’s preferences, making at-a-glance viewing as informative as needs be.

Euro NCAP.

The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) is a European car safety performance assessment programme based in Brussels. Each year manufacturers nominate their best selling model(s) for testing and following a series of tests requiring up to four cars, a safety rating is awarded of up to five stars.
The most recently tested BMW family model, the BMW X1 scored a maximum five stars, as did the BMW 1 Series and the BMW 3 Series when tested in 2012. Although not directly comparable, as the criteria for five stars has become progressively harder to achieve, BMW vehicles tested years ago also score well: five stars for the BMW 5 Series from 2010, four stars for the BMW X3 in 2008, and five stars for the BMW 3 Series from 2005. So an Approved Used BMW is a particularly safe bet.

Technology.

Every BMW vehicle has both built-in and optional technologies to make driving safer. Built-in as standard on all new BMW vehicles, BMW Emergency Call ensures that in the event of an accident, help is always close at hand. The vehicle is directly linked to the local emergency services via its own SIM card, allowing assistance to be contacted simply by pressing the SOS button. In a more serious accident, crash sensors automatically trigger an emergency call connecting the emergency services directly to your vehicle.
Also included as standard, the Bluetooth hands-free facility with USB audio interface enables the driver to stay focused on the road and talk on the phone. All the phone’s functions can be operated via the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, or the iDrive Controller, functional bookmarks or the voice control system if fitted, so attention need never leave the road.
Optional safety technologies cover all types of driving, from Lane Change Warning and Lane Departure Warning for motorways, to Traffic Jam Assistant and Surround View for urban driving and parking. The range and availability of different technological options vary with each model, but all add another layer of security and peace of mind.
