If it's not using its range extender engine the BMW i3 has zero local emissions. And if it's using electricity generated from a renewable source, then it has minimal impact on the environment in use.
BMW i vehicles are also manufactured in a plant powered by renewable resources, and the carbon fibre used in its passenger cell is made in a plant powered by hydro electricity.
Inside the BMW i3, the use of eucalyptus and kenaf for internal surfaces helps reduce the need for petroleum-based plastics, while leather is tanned using olive oil, and seats contain fibres made from recycled PET bottles.
