BMW ConnectedDrive Driver assistance systems
in the BMW M4 Coupé.

A suite of innovative technologies provide in-car support and guarantee the highest level of comfort and safety. So you can focus on pure driving pleasure.

BMW M Head-up Display.

The full-colour BMW M Head-up Display projects important driving information directly into the driver's field of vision. With the press of a button, the driver can switch to the sportier M-specific display. Along with a digital speedometer, it also shows the selected gear and a multi-coloured rpm symbol including shift lights. Navigation instructions, Speed Limit Display (including no-overtaking indicator and infotainment tips) are also shown. Projections at eye-height mean the driver never loses focus on the road – improving safety and offering a truly unique driving experience.

Driving Assistant.

Driving Assistant combines the car’s camera-based systems - Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, City Collision Mitigation and Preventive Pedestrian Protection.
The Lane Departure Warning detects the road’s lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 45 mph with a vibration in the steering wheel and a visual warning in the instrument cluster. The warning is not activated when the lane change is deliberate, i.e. when the indicator is turned on.
While the Forward Collision Warning detects vehicles, the Preventive Pedestrian Protection reacts to pedestrians. When there is a risk of collision, the Forward Collision Warning triggers a two-stage warning – a symbol in the instrument cluster lights up, followed by an acoustic alarm. The Preventive Pedestrian Protection triggers a single-stage warning in the event of an acute risk of collision. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the City Collision Mitigation applies the brakes automatically.

Speed Limit Display.

Speed Limit Display including a no-overtaking indicator highlights the current speed limit in the instrument cluster, as well as relevant information about no-overtaking zones. This is all shown on the Info Display in the instrument cluster or in the Head-up Display. A special camera detects the relevant traffic signs, which are then processed by a control unit along with data from the navigation system. Features including the rain sensor are also incorporated, so variable speed limits in specific instances are also registered – under wet conditions or at certain times of day, for example – ensuring the driver is always well informed about the road ahead.

iDrive Touch Controller.

The iDrive Touch Controller allows the iDrive system to be conveniently operated with a single hand, effortlessly and intuitively. With the touchpad integrated into the Controller, information like destinations for the navigation system can be entered using handwriting. It can also be used to access a wide range of functions and settings as well as to scroll through lists. For the driver, this keeps distraction from the road to an absolute minimum. All functions operated using the Controller can be conveniently viewed in the Control Display.

Anti-dazzle High-beam Assistant.

With anti-dazzle High-beam Assistant (only available with Adaptive LED Headlights or Adaptive Headlights), night driving is safer and more comfortable by providing excellent visibility without dazzling other drivers. The system detects other road-users and selectively excludes them from the high-beam headlight distribution. Beam ranges of over 400m ensure early detection of risks and improved directional tracking.

Park Assist.

Park Assist makes parallel parking easier. When the system is activated and the car is driving slowly (below 20mph), it will measure any parking gaps the car passes. When a large enough gap has been found, the driver can simply switch on the turn indicator and Park Assist will do the steering. All the driver needs to do is operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also emits acoustic signals and gives instructions in the Control Display, making parking safer and simpler.

Camera systems.

Park Distance Control, Surround-view and Rear-view camera give you a clear view of the area around your vehicle when manoeuvring into parking spaces and at road exits.
Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear allows you to park safely and comfortably with its optical and acoustic signals.
Surround-view shows your vehicle in the Control Display with the aid of a projection from above. The accompanying Side-view system guarantees a better overview when visibility is poor at road exits. The Rear-view camera provides welcome support when you are reversing into parking spaces at speeds of less than 12mph.

Dynamic Safety.

Dynamic Safety is the BMW preventive occupant protection system. The system has a range of features to keep the driver safe including a warning signal if the car detects signs of tiredness, pretensioning safety belts in critical situations, returning seats to their upright position and closing windows and sliding roofs. In the event of an accident, the system also brakes the vehicle to a stop.
