The BMW TwinPower Turbo engines in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

Thanks to BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, the new-generation of BMW petrol and diesel engines in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer facilitate markedly more agile power delivery and outstanding responsiveness even at low rpms, all while being exceptionally fuel-efficient and low in emissions.

BMW TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder petrol engine.

The 1.5-litre, 100 kW (136 hp) 3-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 218i Active Tourer accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 9.2 s (Steptronic transmission: 9.2 s), reaching a top speed of 205 km/h (Steptronic transmission: 205 km/h). As well as delivering excellent driving performance, the low-friction engine is impressively fuel-efficient, with a combined consumption of a mere 54.3 to 57.6mpg (Steptronic transmission: 53.3 to 55.3mpg), and the CO2 emissions – at 120 to 115 g/km (Steptronic transmission: 124 to 119 g/km) – are correspondingly low. The engine features the most recently developed BMW TwinPower Turbo technology: Twin Scroll turbocharging, High Precision Injection and the Valvetronic fully variable valve control including Double-VANOS. In addition to its outstanding performance, the new engine features the thrilling characteristics typical of a 3-cylinder engine, including exceptional torque and responsiveness even at low engine speeds. It operates remarkably smoothly and provides impressive driving comfort along with a sporty engine sound. All figures were determined in accordance with the EU test cycle and depend on the selected tyre format.

BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel engines.

The innovative four-cylinder diesel engines from the new generation of the BMW EfficientDynamics engine family guarantee maximum driving pleasure thanks to improved performance over a wide range of engine speeds and a significant reduction in fuel consumption. They are enhanced by BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, which combines the most recent, optimised turbocharging innovations with CommonRail direct injection and variable turbine geometry. The engine in the BMW 220d Active Tourer* impresses with 140 kW (190 hp) and a top speed of 225 km/h (Steptronic transmission: 220 km/h); xDrive: 220 km/h). And it’s economical, too: Average fuel consumption is a mere 61.4 to 64.2 mpg (Steptronic transmission: 61.4 to 64.2 mpg; xDrive: 59 to 60 mpg), with CO2 emissions of 122 to 117 g/km (Steptronic tranmission: 121 to 117 g/km; xDrive: 128 to 123 g/km). Even more efficient is the engine in the BMW 218d Active Tourer*. With an output of 110 kW (150 hp) and CO2 emissions of 114 to 109 g/km (Steptronic transmission: 114 to 109 g/km), it consumes just 4.3 to 4.1 l/100 km of fuel (Steptronic transmission: 4.3 to 4.1 l/100 km). All figures were determined in accordance with the EU test cycle and depend on the selected tyre format. * The BMW 220d Active Tourer and the BMW 220d Active Tourer xDrive are expected to be available from November 2014. The figures for the BMW 220d Active Tourer and the BMW 220d Active Tourer xDrive are preliminary values and still await official confirmation.

BMW TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder petrol engine with eDrive.

The high-efficiency plug-in hybrid vehicle BMW 225xe Active Tourer with BMW EfficientDynamics eDrive technology combines purely electric, 100% local emission-free driving over short distances with dynamic performance. Core components include a 100 kW (136 hp) BMW TwinPower 3-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor with 65 kW (88 hp) and a lithium-ion high-voltage battery with a capacity of 7.7 kWh. The combustion engine transfers its power to the front wheels via a 6-speed Steptronic transmission and impresses with its smoothness up to a maximum speed of 202 km/h.
