Driving dynamics & efficiency of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

Whether you’re in city traffic, on steep mountain roads or off the beaten track – one thing remains unchanged with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: the incomparable, energy-charged driving experience. With BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, innovative steering with outstanding response and a number of ingenious chassis control systems, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer masters every bend and every road surface – safely and with the greatest of pleasure.

BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.

Power and efficiency in one.

BMW TwinPower Turbo engines in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.
Thanks to BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, the innovative BMW petrol and diesel engines facilitate markedly more agile power delivery and outstanding responsiveness even at low rpms, all while being exceptionally fuel efficient and low in emissions. The newest generation of engines from the EfficientDynamics family combine cutting-edge fuel-injection technologies and completely variable power distribution with innovative turbocharger technology to enhance efficiency and dynamics.

BMW xDrive.

The intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system adapts perfectly to even the most challenging road surface conditions, ensuring outstanding traction at all times. xDrive and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) ensure that the BMW remains perfectly stable. Controlled via DSC sensors, xDrive flexibly and quickly distributes drive power between the axles in order to prevent oversteer or understeer from developing, thereby ensuring outstanding directional stability. This helps the DSC in critical road conditions. BMW xDrive combines all the advantages of an all-wheel drive system – traction, directional stability and driving safety – with classic BMW agility for even more driving pleasure.

BMW sDrive.

sDrive refers to BMW vehicles in which torque from the drive train is transmitted via only one axle. In vehicles with compact dimensions that nonetheless offer a spacious interior and a versatile, expandable luggage compartment, sDrive on the front axle along with a transverse engine is a space-saving solution that simultaneously guarantees outstanding dynamics and agility.

100 % sporty.

On straights or bends, on long journeys or in the hustle and bustle of city driving – with its thrust, agility, crisp transmissions and excellent roadholding, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer demonstrates its athleticism in every situation.

ECO PRO mode.

The ECO PRO mode helps drivers reduce their fuel consumption by up to 20 percent, depending on their driving style – according to an internal BMW fuel consumption study. The coasting function (only with 8-speed Steptronic transmission) and ECO PRO Route (only with Navigation system Plus) offer an increased savings potential.

Automatic Start/Stop function.

The Automatic Start/Stop function ensures that fuel is only used when the car is moving. When the vehicle comes to a temporary stop, for example at traffic lights or in stop-and-go traffic, the Automatic Start/Stop function saves fuel by switching off the engine as soon as the car is idling and the foot is off the clutch (manual transmission), or when the car comes to a complete standstill (Steptronic transmission).
A signal in the Info Display indicates when the Automatic Start/Stop function is active. As soon as the clutch is pressed (manual transmission) or the foot taken from the brake (Steptronic transmission), the engine springs back to life automatically.

Brake Energy Regeneration.

Every time the brakes are hit, kinetic energy is generated and until recently this energy went unused. Brake Energy Regeneration takes advantage of this long-overlooked potential. It harnesses the coasting energy that is generated whenever the driver brakes or takes his or her foot off the accelerator and turns it into electricity.
This electricity is then used to charge the car battery. The intelligent energy management system means that the alternator no longer needs to run constantly, which reduces the strain on the generator. The result: reduced fuel consumption and increased performance – classic BMW EfficientDynamics.

Optimum Shift Indicator.

Optimum, perfectly-timed gear changes can help save fuel, particularly in urban traffic and over long distances. Change gears at the right time, use less fuel – the engine’s electronics system identifies the most efficient gear, based on road conditions and engine speed. An arrow lights up in the Info Display to show when it would be more efficient to shift into a higher or lower gear. The system also recognises quick acceleration, and will delay its recommendation accordingly until the engine speed is up. Comparative tests have shown that vehicles with the Optimum Shift Indicator use around four percent less fuel.
