ActiveHybrid Overview
With BMW EfficientDynamics technologies the internal combustion engine has become more economical and efficient than ever before. But we're not stopping there. The BMW ActiveHybrid takes the strengths of electric motors (like the ability to deliver maximum torque from zero) and combines them with the responsive efficiencies of BMW petrol engines. Its intelligent energy management system will help to achieve further reductions in fuel use and CO2 emissions. And that means genuine driving pleasure
The Concept
BMW ActiveHybrid is a single hybrid system. It's also modular, which means that it can be applied to different BMW models without diluting their distinctive characters. Its key components are an internal combustion engine, a transmission unit featuring two electric motors, batteries, and an electronic control system.
It's been developed through a strategic partnership between BMW, General Motors and Daimler: the Global Hybrid Cooperation. Each of the partners will use the resulting technologies in their own way. So a BMW ActiveHybrid vehicle will be a true BMW.

The Benefits
Electric motors can deliver something engineers and drivers once only dreamed of: peak torque from a standstill. Add the output of an internal combustion engine and you've got an impressive set of power and torque curves. Together, the engine and motors operate at maximum efficiency, using less fuel to achieve the same level of performance.
The motors also act as generators. When the driver brakes or takes their foot off the accelerator and coasts, the normally wasted energy is converted into electricity and used to recharge the battery.

The BMW Concept X6 Hybrid
In 2007 we unveiled the world's first Sports Activity Coupé: the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid. Among its innovative features is its two-mode active transmission, which varies the interplay between engine and electric motors according to the situation. One mode ensures maximum torque when pulling away and in low-speed driving. The other is optimised for higher speeds and bursts of acceleration. On the road, the BMW X6 Concept ActiveHybrid is as agile and enjoyable as it is efficient.
BMW CleanEnergy

What is the future of motion? To start with, it's the ability to generate energy from hydrogen, making driving emission-free. And with the BMW Hydrogen 7, the future starts now. This is the first product-ready vehicle to be powered by hydrogen. Which means that it delivers the performance you expect and, with zero emissions, the responsibility you only imagined. Making it a true pioneer of future mobility.
Closer to the Future

The BMW Hydrogen 7 is the world's first production-ready hydrogen vehicle. Since its 2007 launch, a fleet of the cars have been used at VIP events and loaned out to business leaders like Justin King of Sainsbury's and Stuart Rose of M&S who are committed to reducing emissions in their organisations. On the road, the BMW Hydrogen 7 has shown that switching to hydrogen can go together with the comfort and dynamics you'd expect from BMW.
